At the time, my son, "K", was six years old and experiencing challenges with his speech—specifically, difficulty pronouncing certain letters and words. His teachers questioned whether we spoke a language other than English at home, suggesting that this might be contributing to his speech difficulties.
As a parent, I was unsure of where to turn for support. We raised the concern with K's pediatrician, who told us he might still be developing his speech and advised us to wait. With her support, we were able to determine that K had a speech impediment—something that had gone unaddressed until that point.
Thanks to Colleen’s guidance and advocacy, I was able to work with the school’s counselors and present the necessary information to demonstrate that speech therapy was not only appropriate but essential. Her support helped us access the services K needed, and it made a meaningful difference in his development and well-being.
